Mason Jars with Handles? – Ask Emmaline

We received this Ask Emmaline question from Britney yesterday and it’s a good one! She asks, “I am looking for mason jars with handles and lids for a decent price. I have had no luck and I am starting to worry I wont find any. Also, do you have any ideas or any way to cover the mason jar before the guests get to their drinks?” Fantastic question! With mason jar drinking glasses being so popular at weddings, we’ve had numerous requests from brides-to-be asking where to buy them. And, keeping those mason jars covered before guests grab them for drinking is an important detail to note. Read on to see our response…

Our go-to for mason jars with handles is either Libbey (in this county fair design or smooth jar design.

How to Keep ‘Em Covered

If you’re having an outdoor wedding, you’ll want to keep the mason jars covered until guests are ready to drink from them. You can do one of two things:

1. Add a Lid

A lid can keep your mason jar clear of debris. Try a daisy lid, which has small openings (but will lessen the chance of anything getting in).

via pieces to party

A daisy lid also has a hole in the center — perfect for adding your favorite drinking straws!

2. Place them top-down

If you want to save money on lids, skip them altogether! Instead, place the mason jars with the top face-down on your drink table. This will keep jars clean and ready for filling up at the bar!

We hope our advice helped! If you have any additional questions about mason jars as drinking glasses, just let us know. (Start a discussion with a comment below or submit an Ask Emmaline question of your own!) We’re sort of experts on the topic after being such huge fans of them for so long! I even use one at home for coffee or tea. :)

Magnolia Single Stem Bouquet

Spotted: this magnolia single stem bouquet proves that you don’t have to go big to make a statement. Instead of carrying a huge bouquet of flowers, consider one large bloom – like a magnolia, for instance – as a single stem bouquet.

Magnolia Single Stem Bouquet

The magnolia is a large, hearty flower that looks beautiful as-is. Instead of bulking it up with additional blooms, carry a single stem ‘bouquet’ down the aisle. It works beautifully for your bridesmaids, too.

What do you think of this look? Would you carry a single stem in lieu of a traditional bouquet of flowers?

Lace Wedding Shoes — Custom Without the Cost

It’s time for another Ask Emmaline question! Hannah asks, “I want a pair of lace wedding shoes, but everything I’ve found is so expensive. Any tips on custom shoes that won’t cost a ton? Thanks!” Great question! One of our go-to’s for lace wedding shoes is Walkin’ On Air. Jennae and Liz are always whippin’ up pairs of pretties with lace applications for one-of-a-kind creations. And, as a bonus, they are totally reasonably priced (so you’re not forced to rethink your entire wedding budget). A pair of these lace shoes will look fantastic at all of your wedding-related events: your bridal shower, bach bash, and rehearsal dinner. Check out a few of our favorite pairs…

This pair of teal shoes is my personal favorite. I love the peep toe for showing off your pretty pedicure! And, how about this teal? Such a bright pop of color!

Their newest offering? Wedges! I love these. Reminds me of my wedges that I can finally take out of hiding this weekend. Yay for the kick-off of summer with the Memorial Day holiday!

2. Recipe Cards

Place recipe cards inside the bridal shower invitations for guests to fill out and return. Have a recipe box or a recipe card book for the bride to hold all the cards turned in by her guests. (Need inspiration? Check out our ten favorite bridal shower recipe cards.)

3. Colander Kitchen Bridal Shower Centerpiece

At the shower, decorate with kicthen-inspired accents in unexpected ways. For instance, you can use a white colander as a makeshift centerpiece holder… just add a gorgeous floral arrangement! A guest at each table (perhaps whomever’s birthday is closest to the wedding date?) can take the centerpiece home.

4. Tea Towels in Grandmother’s Handwriting

This makes a great gift for the bride-to-be: turn a recipe card into a tea towel! For instance, if her grandmother’s apple pie recipe is her favorite, you can have the recipe (complete with the hand-writing as-is) transposed onto a tea towel. Isn’t that a sweet idea?

5. Teaspoon Favors

Send guests home with a delightful kitchen-inspired favor. For my own bridal shower, guests received these teaspoon favors. I still use mine daily (it’s perfect for measuring my morning coffee).

6. Personalized Rolling Pin

A personalized rolling pin makes a great gift for the bride or as a prize item for a game. Made in Poland, these personalized rolling pins can be customized with your name, which is then imprinted onto dough when baking. Neat idea!

15 Creative Wedding Coaster Ideas

One of our favorite handcrafted details for a wedding bar is a bespoke coaster. We’ve seen coasters given as wedding favors, used as escort cards, printed with a thank you message to wedding guests, and used as a unique advice guest book alternative, just to name a few ideas. A coaster is a conversation starter for guests and offers functionality as a drink ‘saver’ or label, as well as to protect a tabletop. As a drink saver, guests can place a coaster above the rim of their glass to signify the drink is still being consumed so it is not bussed. And, as a label, guests can identify a drink as theirs by writing their name on it (these are one example). A wedding coaster can also be used just as a festive addition to your decor. To inspire your reception, we’ve rounded up fifteen creative wedding coaster ideas below. Take a peek and let us know if you plan to use wedding coasters and, if so, tell us what yours will say!

What to Put in Favor Boxes

To round out today’s posts (in case you missed ‘em, learn how to protect wedding cake outdoors this summer and 21 unique be my bridesmaid card ideas) we’re offering another wonderful Ask Emmaline question! When Sara and Evan started planning their wedding, they made a super-tight budget (and have stuck to it so far) but they knew favors would be one large expense. When Sara found an amazing deal on favor boxes, she snapped them up — but now she wants to know what to put in favor boxes. She writes, “Emmaline! I need help. My fiance Evan and I are making our wedding favors and we found boxes… but now what are we supposed to put in them?” Read on to find out what to put in favor boxes and enter for a chance to win favor boxes of your very own, ready to ship + fill, by Paper Angel Designs! Enjoy!

What to Put in Favor Boxes (boxes: paper angel designs)

paper angel designs

What to Put in Favor Boxes

Our favorite ideas for favor box ‘fillers’ include:

o M&Ms

Ideal for a summer wedding, M&Ms won’t melt. You can get creative with custom personalized m&ms. They are a bit expensive, though, so if you want to stay on budget we recommend the regular ones. Buy M&Ms in bulk to save money.

o Jordan Almonds

They’re a popular, traditional wedding custom. Typically, you place five Jordan almonds inside a favor box to represent health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life.

o Hershey Kisses

Simple. Sweet. Affordable! Hershey kisses are an easy candy to put in favor boxes and almost everyone loves chocolate! Buy Hershey kisses in bulk to keep costs down. Note: don’t use these if you’re having a summer wedding, unless your venue is air-conditioned; otherwise, you’ll have a melty mess.

o Nuts / Trail Mix

You can buy huge bulk bags of trail mix or nuts to put in favor boxes. I love trail mix, you know, because it’s so healthy (or so they say, but I’m always digging through the bag to pull out the M&Ms. I know I’m not alone on this.) This is my favorite trail mix from Costco.

o Taffy

Salt water taffy is one of those worry-free candies, since it won’t melt and each piece is individually wrapped. Buy a huge bag of salt water taffy in a flavor that coordinates with your wedding color palette.

o Mints

After dinner mints (the pastel kind) are a great choice because they’re small so they fit in nearly any favor box. They’re also appreciated by guests (who doesn’t love a mint after dinner?) I love these mints but these are my all-time favorite (though the chocolate will, again, pose a problem if your wedding is in the summer outdoors).

Scrabble Themed Wedding: Katelyn + Chris

Prepared to be wowed with this Scrabble themed wedding! Katelyn and Chris were married last year at the Coyote Creek Golf Course in Burtonsville, IL. One of their coolest wedding details is a giant “just married” sign made of scrabble pieces. They also had a scrabble theme used on the centerpieces, bouquets, and boutonnieres. Their amazing photos were taken by Matthew from Matthew Steed Wilson Photography. Read on to see the photos and learn more…

Scrabble Themed Wedding

Matthew tells us, “Katelyn and Chris had their wedding at Coyote Creek Golf Course in Burtonsville, IL. What started out as a stormy day couldn’t have ended up any better.” Some of the unique details they incorporated into their day included beach balls thrown as they exited the ceremony (which was on the green at a golf course) and a Southpark cake, which featured themselves as renditions of Southpark-inspired characters.

Burlap Bouquets for Rustic Weddings

Burlap is one of our favorite accents for rustic weddings because it is so versatile. Plus, it’s inexpensive and easy to find at any local craft store. We’ve shared many burlap-inspired ideas in the past (like these 50 must-have burlap wedding items) and accents such as burlap wedding banners, burlap ring pillows, a diy burlap table runner, adorable doily clutch purses and these burlap letters, just to name a few.
